Jazmine Perez, Director of Programming

Hometown: Quincy, WA

Major: Physiology/Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies, C/O 2016

How did you get involved with ASUW?
I began my involvement through SARVA (Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Activists); I served as their Programming Coordinator 2014-2015. I had always wanted to join SARVA but finally, my junior year, I got the guts to join their spring quarter SARVA workshops and at the end of the quarter, when their apps opened, I applied for the PC position. At the end of last year, I was approached to run for Director of Programming and now here I am!

What does your job entail?
As the director of programming I work with the director of community relations, Ann Nguyen, to plan W Day and coordinate homecoming court selection. I liaison to Arts & Entertainment, the Student Health Consortium and Rainy Dawg Radio, helping them plan their large campus-wide events, such as A&E Fall Fling, SHC Every Body Everybody Fashion Show, and Rainy Dawg Radio’s Birthdayfest. Other than that, I sit on the committee of Special Appropriations. We work to make sure the RSO’s that need extra funding to put on awesome events get the money they need. And, I also chair the programming committee, a small committee that makes the best use of the ASUW Director of Programming budget.

Favorite part of working for the ASUW?
My favorite thing is the fact that we use the funds provided by the students to create awesome ways for students to get involved and/or have a fun time!

What career do you hope to pursue long term?
After graduation, I am going to take a gap year and have some fun, travel here and there, but most excitingly, make some real money! Eventually, I’d like to matriculate into medical school, MD/PhD maybe… maybe. I want to become a psychiatrist and I want to be a mental health and sexual assault activist within the Latin@ community.
